« Are You Ready For the Mac? Network Magic is!!! | Main | Network Magic 4.1 is Here! »

Have You Ever Wondered...

What your kids are doing on their computers late at night or anytime? Where do they go on the Internet? Are they asleep or typing away madly on IM at 3 in the morning?

Ever wonder?

The market is full of products that allow you to do creepy things like snoop on your kids IM traffic, see their screen, block certain Web sites from their browsers, etc. These products, however, all put you in the position of being pretty invasive. They also require a ton of work on your part to maintain. And who really wants to sit and read your child’s wacky conversations with their friends, just in case?

What if you could get a daily email that simply told you when they were active on the Internet, where they went and what programs they ran on their computers over the last 24 hours? Now with our new Network Reports feature a simple one page report for each computer in your home is delivered every day, just like the morning paper.

We have been busy here at Pure Networks working to understand what people like you want to know about how your home network operates and what the different computers are doing. Because of the already spectacular job Network Magic does fixing your network problems, we know a lot about what is going on ‘under the covers’ of your home network as well. In our version 4.1, we start to reveal to you, in simple terms, things you might be interested in knowing.

Besides the daily email, we also added something called the Network Magic Advisor. This feature will provide you with timely information about how to get the most value out of Network Magic, as well as how to get the most value out your network itself. Have you ever wondered what all of those storage terms mean? NAS, SCSI, SATA? Network Advisor is the place to find out. How about more information about the latest home networking equipment or upgrades to your current equipment? Network Advisor is the source. Need more printer ink? Find some in Network Advisor! Our goal is to provide you with information that is important to you!

We are inviting you to take a look at our new version with this preview release. As usual, there are some things you should understand about preview releases:

  1. It is NOT the final release and there could be bugs in it. We don’t think so, but we are still looking.
  2. It interoperates with 4.0 just fine, and it works with our beta version of our Mac client. You can put it on just one computer to see what it does.
  3. It isn’t going to hurt.
  4. It is a free upgrade to 4.0 and earlier releases. If you are in free trial mode for 4.0, and you download the 4.1 preview, you will then be in free trial mode in 4.1.
  5. If you love 4.1 and have to buy it RIGHT NOW (like, in order to see the detail in the reports) you can do so, and you will, of course, get the final version, for free, in a few weeks. Instant gratification is important!
  6. It isn’t going to hurt!

If you love 4.1, and you will, just wait until we release 4.2 this summer! You simply will not believe your eyes!

Let me know what you think!

great product i have 3 simple question:1: about the net2go why do you have to have a computer pluged by wire and not wireless?2: And if i use a router like the wrt 350n with the link (NAS)will i still have to plug a computer by wire to have the net 2go working? 3:it seams that NAS will bee supported in a future version witch version is it? Hope to get a answer thanks!

Great questions. I looked in to the Net2Go issue. Performance is the only reason you would want a wired connection. There is nothing in the product that prevents you from using a wireless connection, but typical wireless throughput might make it a less-than-acceptable experience to you.

We are talking to a number of NAS companies and hope to have NAS solutions in the near future.

So far this tool is doing what I expected from it.

Can't wait to see the new updates hopefully before the summer.

Was wondering whether there is a function, which I haven't see it yet, that allows user to communicate between each other within the wireless NT, you know some sort of Sendnet or basic chat tool.

MQ.

I just saw a demo of this very feature from our research team last week! We are working on the best way to get it into the product mix.

Thanks for asking!

Great product. I've only been using it a short while, but I love how easy it is. I'm still in trial mode and plan to make the purchase soon.

I think your product, Netwqork Magic is the best thing since sliced bread. Finally I don't have to keep track of all the IP addresses on my home network. 4 out of five printers are on print servers plus 4 desktops and 1 laptop. The only complaint is the D/L speeds from your Server. I get no better speeds than if I was using a V92 modem. Hey guys, C'mon, you can do better than that. It ain't my link either as I tested my speeds immediately before and after the D/L's and I get 3Mbps, (that's megabits not bytes.)
A company with so fine a product as Network Magic can surely afford a faster pipe than what you have now. I've recommended Network Magic to 3 of my friends who have home networks already and so far one of them has complained to me about the same problem, D/L speeds.
I hope something can be done about this.
Sincerely,
Bernie Lyons

Hi Jeff
I have D-Link 4300 Gaming ROuter and the Network Lock feature is not supported. HOw often do you add new supported routers to your existing list? Please advise. Thanks much!

===================

Great question!

We have a team that is constantly adding router drivers to our product line. At this point we support close to 1000 routers and firmware combinations.

It seems the router companies are adding new products and firmware changes daily, so it is a daunting job to keep up.

I will pass your request to the router team and we will get it on the list.

If your children are in college, that means that they are at least 17 or 18 years old. I do not think they need that kind of supervision. They are adults already. Spying on them is not always good thing. But i do agree that younger kids should be constantly supervised by their parents.

==========================

Actually they are in their 20's and don't live at home any more, One of them works for Pure Networks! I suspect he is spying on me...

Is this magicnetwork compatible with Vista and Window XP mix ?

======================

ABSOLUTELY!

You can now share files and printers between Vista, XP and the Mac

Creepy? What you call "creepy" I call proper supervision of children. They are *children*, after all, not tenants in my house.

=======================

I mean 'creepy' in the nicest way...

I raised three boys, all in college now, and they all had their own computers. By creepy I mean actually watching their conversations with their buddies, and other more invasive approaches to the whole issue of raising a child in the age of the internet.

We are not going to get into the business of raising your children, that is your job, as you indicate. We see our role as providing you with information about the network activity in your home that would otherwise be very difficult for the average consumer to surface. What you decide to do with that information is up to you.
