Greetings
My name is Julie and I’m a technical writer at Pure Networks, writing end-user Help and anything else that helps our users be successful with Network Magic. I’ve been working at Pure about 4 months.
I’m from a very large family, none of which are proficient computer users – seriously. I’m the relative everyone calls when they need to install software, troubleshoot why something won’t work, and anything else even remotely relating to their computer, and more recently, their Internet connection. It’s especially fun when my nieces and nephews know more than their parents, and have this worried look on their faces when I come over. They know that I can see what they’ve been up to on the family computers, even if their parents can’t. When I first started at Pure and was going through the existing online Help, I saw a topic about troubleshooting problems. One of the suggestions for solving the problem was calling a relative and asking for help. I just smiled.
Now I don’t mind helping out, but with six siblings, their spouses and kids, and various neighbors and friends, it gets to be a little much. On the other hand, when I’m writing the online Help for new Network Magic features, I imagine that one of my brothers is reading it. The best thing about Network Magic is it’s intended for people who aren’t computer gurus, but rather for people who have one or more computers, an Internet connection, a printer or two, perhaps a gaming system, and want some help with “making it all work.” And maybe without having to call a relative.
Currently, I’m updating the online Help, looking at existing information, and adding new information for our new features. Does anyone have any comments about the Network Magic online Help? Have you used it and successfully found the answers you needed? Are there other questions that you are curious about but don’t even know where to start? Well I am here to help! Ask away.

Comments
The answer is probably obvious, but I have to ask -- just need reassurance I guess since didn't see anything in about it in Help. I recently purchased a new laptop and I'd like it to replace the desktop where I originally installed NM and created my network. Do I have to start all over again in creating the network in order to do the switch? I can successfully add the new laptop to the network but don't see an option to drop the desktop out. What happens when I unplug the desktop?
-----------------
No worries. When you connect your laptop to the network (via your router), Network Magic will automatically detect the device. (Be sure to install Network Magic on your new laptop as well. You can use the same License key.) You can also run the "Add a Device To My Network" option on the Network Tasks page from your Desktop computer to add the laptop to the network map. This ensures Network Magic discovers and adds your new laptop.
And when you remove the desktop computer from your network (unplug it from the router), it will automatically be removed from the Network Map. All other devices will remain just as they were, as long as your printer wasn't connected to your desktop. In that case, connect it to a computer that's still on your network and it will be discovered again and you can share it like it was.

I am a techy and I can do anything NM can do except...easily monitor my ENTIRE home network of 8-10 computers from ONE user friendly graphical screen. I can see whose up and whose not and who should be in bed!

You're referring to the Network Reports feature. It's a great way to monitor what's happening on your computers, even when you're not there (or awake!)

When you install Network Magic with a router, you have a 7 day trial of the Basic and Premium features. After 7 days, the Premium features are disabled unless you purchase Nework Magic Premium for $29.99, but the basic features continue to work. If you want to see a list of Basic vs. Premium features, go to our web site:

Tried to create a network but all I created was frustration.
Then I bought "Network Magic" and now even my wife thinks I'm smart.
This is one easy program to use and it works like magic.

Thanks for purchasing Network Magic! When you purchased, you received a Network License Key. Open Network Magic and click on the Status Center tab. Under the Network Magic heading, click Activate Network Magic Premium. Enter your Network License Key in the dialog box and click Activate. If you have any problems, you can contact our support team.

David,
Connecting a PDA is a lot like connecting a wireless network printer; you first need to connect it to your router, and then it will appear in the Network Map. Refer to your PDA's documentation for details about connecting it directly to your router.

The main coment from me is you really Have a great program with NM, but my problem is, I don't hold a major credit card and that prohibits me from getting NM very easily. To buy NM I have to send $US over to a friend, he then buys NM and has to ship it here to me in the UK, which then put more money on buying NM. I have tried Amazon UK but they couldn't get it in.
I do have (and many others in the UK) a PayPal account, will you be taking PayPal at all in the future so I can buy NM ?? I so much want Network Magic as the trial version has now addressed all the problems I had before with version 3 which I have got already.

Julie,
I just switched from cable back to dial-up and DISH network (TV Rx only) to avoid a cable bill hike, only to get one from DISH. I am thinking about re-installing the wireless, but had plenty of issues with IRQ, etc. on the ASUS P3B-F PII 266Mhz. machine. It works now with most everything showing up on IRQ9 ( Large Hard-drive controller, APCI, USB, etc.), but I am concerned that re-installing the D-Link will 'break the camel's back'. Any clues for a safe restoration?
Thanks, [no hurry...(really!)]- Jon

Jon,
Your home setup is interesting. I asked around the office to get ideas and suggestions, and the overwhelming comment was that you may want to consider upgrading to a new computer to take advantage of the new wireless capabilities. Network Magic works best with a 450 Mhz or higher processor.

Lynn,
Connecting a wireless printer, well... Network Magic is great for helping you share printers connected to a computer in your network, however, wireless printers can be a little tricky. Network Magic doesn't do this automatically as with printers connected directly to a computer.
The first step is to follow your printer directions to connect the printer to your router (wired or wireless) and then it'll show up on the Network Map. Then you need to install the printer on each computer in your network. If you run in to problems, your best bet would be to contact your printer vendor for assistance.

I was hoping that NM would help me with installing my wireless printer. It has shown me the address of the Voange router, but says my NETGEAR is another device and assigns it the same address. I have submitted this to CS.
Just getting this far was only possible thru NM and I'm sure i'll be using it a lot more in the future (I'm just getting started with my networking)

I'm new to this. Trying to set up a home wireless network with a first time purchase of a D Link DIR-665. I'm trying to use Network Magic to connect my Dell Axim x50v handheld. Can't find any reference to hand helds / PDA's / Pocket PC's.

Thanks Julie
NetworkMagic is superb, I have told thousands about via a UK forum and hope some have downloaded it. Its one of the few pieces of software I have bought, I like open source stuff but this is the best money I've spent on software in the past twenty years.
